Family Day Care – Educators

Little Star FDC Scheme is seeking educators that are passionate about working with children and families while earning an income from home.

Opening your home to families and children takes a special kind of person – someone able to adapt to different people, cultures, and lifestyles. You will also need the support of your own family, as home-based childcare will have an impact on their lives as well. Children’s health and safety is the number one priority. Guidelines and standards are available to ensure that your home and outdoor area are safe for children. This will be strongly supported by Little Star FDC.
Qualifications and Professional Requirements
FDC Educator mandatory requirements are:
- Minimum qualification certificate III in ECEC
- First Aid Certificate
- CPR Certificate
- Asthma and anaphylaxis management training
- Working with Children’s Check
- Police Check
- Public liability insurance
- PRODA ID
You should also have the following:
- ABN
- COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate
Registration Process
Interview
Prospective educators must visit the principal office at 39 Old Kent Road Greenacre. Here they will meet with the nominated supervisor, educational leaders and coordinators. Prospective educators are invited to share their experience, prior education, background and desire to be an FDC educator.
Home Visit
We will visit you to discuss how you plan to use your home to create a suitable environment for family day care. We can advise on what modifications are required, and work with you to obtain solutions so that you meet regulatory requirements.
Application
The application to register as an Educator will require you to share your background, experience, and motivations for the role. Do not worry if you are new to family day care, as experience is only preferred not necessary. We will also require declarations of ‘fitness and propriety’,
Induction
We will hand over the relevant forms, books and posters as well as provide training for the use of software, education programs and practice. This will ensure you can work as an FDC educator.
Final Inspection
We will visit your house once more for a final inspection. Here you will need to meet the requirements of our checklist, at the end of which your home will be declared fit for family day care.
Formal Agreement
You will sign a formal agreement which will require you to abide by regulations, national law, NQF and LSFDC policies procedure. A registration certificate will also be issued.
ON GOING SUPPORT
Vacancies
We will promote and market your service with our resources, whether it be on our website, social media or additional advertising if necessary. If any family enquiries with us, we will be sure to connect you with them to fill your vacancies.

Our office is open Monday to Friday and Saturday by appointment only. You can also contact the office after hours via mobile phone or email.
Regular House Visit
We will provide regular, unannounced house visits to ensure your family day care meets regulatory requirements.

LSFDC regularly holds group meetings to provide support, listen to educator concerns and take action to address them.
